Oh goddamn it!
— Me dropping the tray of margaritas on the floor

So I dropped this tray of margaritas. Yup the one right up there.  And I am so glad this happened.  One of my biggest mantras in life is to roll with it and laugh.  That is a big part of what makes Denim Jelly special.  We aren't perfect all the time, sometimes we are far from perfect and just big ole hot messes.  I know I am.  While I was shooting this post I was trying to handle the tray of tall wobbly glasses and work the camera at the same time and just like that - CRASH!  I dropped the whole thing on the floor. I just stood there for a second, shouted, "Oh goddamn it!", and then laughed hysterically.  What can you do? It happens.  But I got the shots I wanted so we are good to go.

I love margaritas. They immediately conjure fun, fiesta, sun, beaches, chips, guac, and friends. I like all kinds of margaritas - frozen, flavored, spicy, and those big tacky ones with an upside down Corona in it - whichever kind you got I'll take.  But my go-to is the classic Cointreau margarita. Cointreau is an orange liqueur from France. It adds this hint of sweet and bitter orange that takes a margarita to the next level. It's a few simple ingredients and always slays. Here is how I make it.

INGREDIENTS

2 oz. of your favorite tequila

1 oz. Cointreau

1 oz. fresh squeezed lime juice

Dash of club soda for fizz (optional)

Combine the tequila, Cointreau, and lime into a cocktail shaker or glass with ice. Shake or stir for thirty seconds to chill and then strain into a glass with a salted rim (if you like). I like to add a dash of club soda to make it fizz but feel free to skip this step if you want to stay true to the classic. Garnish with a lime wheel and boom - it's a party.

MY THOUGHTS ON GLASSWARE

Like me, the margarita can go with the flow. It's a fun social drink that wants to get drank so it isn't picky on what kind of glass it's in. I usually trying to think about what vibe I want my guests to feel. Are we feeling summery and casual - then I might use a mason jar. If I am serving them with yummy homemade tacos - I might use a simple tumblr. Or if I want to fancy it up I will use a champagne coupe (like in the pics - just don't drop them like me).  But if you do, so what - just laugh and open some beers instead.

I am also obsessed with Mexican pottery. Every time I go I pick up a new piece or two to add to my collection. They are colorful and come in every shape and size you can imagine. I have them all over the house - change bowl on my desk, on the counter for loose veggies, one to organize little stuff in the bar tray.  And of course they are great for serving food too.

I got all these in Isla Mujeres, a small island just off of Cancun.

ALWAYS LOOK FOR OPPORTUNITIES

When I dropped the tray I used it as an opportunity to laugh. Instead of getting upset that my brand new glasses were gone, I acted quick.  I grabbed my phone and started Snapchatting the silliness.  All my friends were cracking up along with me sending me replies and texts.  Even spilled margaritas are fun - they so crazy like that!
